Mindfulness and Mental Wellness: Mindfully Feel Awesomer.

Mindfulness is a term that is used with great diversity of interpretation and practice. While the term seems to be experiencing a modernization and evolution, likely for better and worse. Finding the true art of mindfulness is personal. Usually presence in the moment, relaxation, and inward attention are components.

Mindfulness is unique to everyone. Finding the practices, techniques, and approaches that work best for you as an individual is essential. Mindfulness is something that can help all people improve mental wellness, reduce negative symptoms, and improve holistic health. Striving for inner peace, calm, and stillness will often be incorporated.

Heidi Kunzek (2018) sees an increase in mental and emotional stability, resilience, and a more positive outlook on life since incorporating the practices of mindfulness. Another benefit she has experienced is less reactivity and ability to regulate and control emotions. There are many people like Heidi who have seen incredible results in mental wellness, functioning, and productivity as a result of mindfulness.

Definitions of Mindfulness

“Paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally.” (Young, 2011)

“Mindfulness is being present in time” (Subasi, 2018).

“Mindfulness is the ability to be present, to rest in the here and now, fully engaged with whatever we’re doing in the moment” (Headspace, 2018)

“Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us” (Mindful.org, 2018)

And let us not forget the everlasting knowledge from Cynthia in Dazed and Confused:

“You know, but that’s valid because if we are all gonna die anyway shouldn’t we be enjoying ourselves now? You know, I’d like to quit thinking of the present, like right now, as some minor insignificant preamble to something else.”
